KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation here at the Presidential Palace yesterday, a statement said.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah briefed President Ghani on his visit to Pakistan and discussed the next steps in the peace process, the presidential press office said.
The meeting came after Dr. Abdullah Abdullah wrapped a three-day official trip to Pakistan, meeting the neighboring country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Arif Alvi, Foreign Minister Qureshi and other high ranking officials where they reiterated their strong support for Afghan peace process.
Meanwhile Indian media reported yesterday that Afghanistan’s top negotiator for intra-Afghan talks, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, will visit India on October 6. This would be his first visit to Delhi as Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, representing the Afghan government in talks with the Taliban, which started in September in Doha.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah is expected to meet the top leadership of India to seek support for the intra-Afghan talks which India always maintained should have been “Afghan-led” and “Afghan-owned”.
