KABUL: The Acting Foreign Minister M. Haneef Atmar met with U.K. Chief of the Defense Staff, General Sir Nick Carter, and U.K. Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Gareth Bayley on Tuesday evening, a statement said.
Minister Atmar briefed the U.K. senior officials on the evolving Afghanistan Peace Negotiations and thanked the United Kingdom for its continued support for the Afghan-led peace process. FM Atmar also extended his gratitude for the United Kingdom’s enduring partnership with Afghanistan over the last nineteen years, the MoFA statement added.
Discussing recent clashes in Helmand province, the two sides underlined the need for reduction of violence and discussed the prospects of establishing a comprehensive ceasefire in Afghanistan. They also highlighted the need to enhance engagements at regional and international levels to advance the Afghan peace process, according to the statement.
Minister Atmar also emphasized the significance of working together on an end-state that ensures sustainable peace and protects the common security interests and shared achievements of the last nineteen years in Afghanistan, the statement further said.
