The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad who is now in Kabul, says that peace in Afghanistan has entered a new phase, as he would stay for some times here to have consultation with wide range of politicians in the country.
In his tweet, the U.S. special envoy has said: “Peace talks are entering a new stage and Afghans must be engaged more than ever.”
“As Afghan peace process talks continue to progress, we agreed preparation for intra-Afghan negotiations now is essential,” he tweeted about his meeting with the country’s President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
About his trip to Europe and his plan for peace in Afghanistan, was another issue shared with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani during his trip to the country.
An intra-Afghan dialogue was the key factor of the discussion focused on, by the two sides during Khalilzad’s Kabul visit.
The country’s presidential office also said in a statement that both the government and the U.S. representative hoped holding of an intra-Afghan peace talks will begin as soon as possible.
The U.S. embassy also confirmed Khalilzad’s peace efforts and his trip to Afghanistan for taking consultation with the leaders of the National Unity Government, political leaders, civil society, and women on the U.S. efforts to facilitate an inclusive peace process in the war-suffered nation.
On the other, according to the National Security Advisor, Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, Pakistan has changed its view on the Afghan peace process and it is highly expected that the neighboring country pay serious attention to the success of the process.
Indeed, peace would come into Afghanistan, either anti-government militants were in favor or against.
Peace is a desire of the Afghan people and insurgents have no option except welcoming and joining the process, or be eliminated, by both the country’s security forces in cooperation with the people.
Meantime, all regional and international stakeholders should take effective steps to help the process get success and prevent further bloodshed in the country.
Taliban should also avoid seeking the restoration of their own system of Islamic interpretation and join a real Afghan-to-Afghan peace dialogue, if they want Afghanistan not to turn into another Syria and Iraq, after Daesh emergence and their destructive activities.
The government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has forever been in favor of peace and peace door is open to any of the government armed opposition but, this requires how the armed opposition groups are resorting to a process, the whole Afghans are strongly desiring.
