KABUL: The Conference on International and Regional Cooperation in Fighting Terrorism and its Financing Through Drug Trafficking and Organized Crimes was held by opening remarks of the Tajik President Emomali Rahman here the other day in Dushanbe city.
Addressing the meeting, Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani said, “This meeting at this critical juncture is very important, and the people of Afghanistan have suffered a lot in fighting terrorism over the past 4 decades.”
There is a natural link between terrorism, organized crimes, and narcotics. Terrorist networks are active through organized crimes and drug trafficking to destabilize the security of countries and to find financial sources.” He further added, “In order to combat the financing of terrorism, Afghanistan has established Fin TRACA, which analyzes financial sources. Moreover, Afghanistan has signed cooperation MoUs with 18 countries on fighting terrorism.”
The Foreign Minister said that exchange of information, cooperation in border areas between Afghanistan and Central Asia, and exchange of experience was a need. He further emphasized the importance of a harmonized strategy for fighting terrorism and crimes in the region and practical measures in implementing the UN strategy of fighting terrorism and its related resolutions.
