KABUL: At least 13 people were martyred and 15 others wounded as the gun attack on a hospital in Kabul came to an end with the killing of all assailants on Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior said.
The gunmen attacked the 100-bed hospital in Dasht Barchi area, where Doctors without Borders runs a maternity clinic, west of the capital at around 10am yesterday.
Tariq Arian, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said the assault ended with the killing of all the three attackers.
He said at least 13 civilians were martyred, including two newborn babies, and 15 others were wounded, including women and doctors.
According to Arian, around 100 people, including three foreigners, were rescued and moved safely. The wounded were shifted to other hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far and the Taliban denied their involvement.
Meanwhile, least 24 other people were martyred and almost 70 others were wounded in a bombing at a funeral in the eastern province of Nangarhar on Tuesday, local officials confirmed.
According to local people, the explosion happened in a crowd of people who were gathered for the funeral of Shaikh Akram, a former commander of public uprising forces, in Shewa district.
Local officials said the casualties may rise as a number of wounded are in critical condition.
The attack was condemned by many.
It came as three other provinces including Kabul saw deadly attacks in the last 24 hours.
