KABUL: The deputy foreign minister for economic cooperation Mirwais Naab met US envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad here in Brussels on Tuesday and both sides discussed joint efforts for an Afghan-led peace process, a MoFA statement said.
The two sides exchanged views on working closely to build regional and international consensus in support of peace, a statement said. The issue of direct negotiations between the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban also came up for discussion.
Meanwhile the deputy minister Naab attended in the Special Representatives Meeting in Belgium. Naab highlighted Afghanistan’s priorities including the peace process and the need for building further consensus specially in the region for an Afghanistan led and owned peace process and the start of direct negotiations between the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban.
They agreed to work closely and jointly on the way forward and in support of an Afghanistan led and owned peace process, the statement added.
