ABA meets with the World Bank Team

The Afghanistan Banks Association (ABA) held a meeting with the World Bank team based in Kabul on 9 September 2025. Representatives from the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and commercial banks participated in the meeting.
The agenda of the meeting included expanding Islamic finance, developing risk-mitigation programs such as loan guarantees, conducting capacity-building programs in Islamic banking, Afghanistan Payment System (APS) and digital banking.
During the meeting, Mr. Najibullah Amiri, Executive Director ABA, expressed his appreciation for the international community’s support in strengthening financial services in the banking sector and shared their proposals and views with the World Bank team.
The representatives of commercial banks presented their technical discussions regarding the challenges of Islamic finance and called for further support in this area
The World Bank representatives appreciated the efforts of the ABA in strengthening the banking sector and assured their cooperation in expanding loan guarantees, financial support, and capacity-building programs aimed at promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and generating employment opportunities in the country.
