COVID-19 positive cases climb 993 in Afghanistan

KABUL: Official in the country’s Ministry of Public Health said Sunday that up to 63 people have been tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total number to 993.

Dr. Wahidullah Mayar, the spokesman of the Ministry of Public Health told media that the total number of the COVID-19 cases have reached to 993, after testing 63 new positive cases all over the country, including 31 cases in the capital Kabul.

According to the statement, 16 new other cases were positive in northern province of Balkh, Four in western Herat, six in Kunar in the east, Baghlan 3 and one each in Faryab, Laghman and Jauzjan provinces, according to the spokesman.

Two people have also been reported dead, while 131 others recovered of the disease, according to the official.

Meanwhile, the testing for the coronavirus temporally stopped in the western province of Herat where the first case of the virus was reported, officials said, adding that it is due to lack of kits. This is the second province after Balkh where the COVID-19 tests have halted because of a lack of required equipment.
