JALALABAD: Joint security forces conducted operation in Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province the other day.
The operation led by Afghan National Army (ANA) and accompanied by border police personnel, national, local and public order policemen.
Mohammad Haroon Yousafzai, spokesman for the 201 Selab Military Corps said that joint security forces conducted operation in Sherzad district to suppress the insurgents.
The aim of the operation was to clear the highways between Khogyani and Sherzad district, suppress of militants in the district, maintain security, paving the way for good governance and return of internally displaced people to their areas, he described.
He added these security forces had also carried out offensive in Achin district and completely cleared the district from insurgents’ presence. Governor Shah Mahmood Miakhel said that the 20 district of the province under security forces control and proper operation planned for Sherzad and Hesarak district as well. He informed offensives would be conducted in Hesarak district as well after Sherzad.
