Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has informed of increasing number of those infected in coronavirus in the country. Therefore, it is needed that all government institutions should take serious steps to prevent the coronavirus outbreak.
Officials for the ministry of public health are suggesting that most-populated cities such as Herat and Kabul should be suspended as other cities of the world where coronavirus outbreak is in the rise. Fortunately, curfew has been implemented in Herat city.
Restaurants, parks and other locations where mass of people usually gather have been quarantined Suspension of schools and universities has been a good step, but teachers and university lecturers are still seen in schools and universities, which is not good.
As coronavirus outbreak is in the rise, it is necessary that the government of Afghanistan should take some further measures to prevent the virus outbreak in the country. The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the coronavirus has now reached the status of a global epidemic or pandemic; therefore, the situation should be taken as serious by the government of Afghanistan.
Most of Afghanistan’s COVID-19 cases have been linked to neighboring Iran, one of the countries hardest hit by the disease, and where millions of Afghans live as refugees.
Since the outbreak began around a month ago, tens of thousands of Afghan refugees have returned home from Iran, but only a few hundred have been tested raising fears the actual infection rate might be much higher than reported.
Afghanistan’s porous borders, creaking hospitals, culture of hand-shaking and hugging, and large illiterate populations in crowded urban centers mean containing the crisis could be a huge challenge.
To prevent from coronavirus, use warm water and soap and rub your hands for at least 20 seconds, use hand sanitizer when you cannot wash your hands properly, rewash your hands several times a day, especially after touching anything including your phone or laptop, avoid touching any part of your face or head including your mouth, nose, and eyes, use a tissue or sneeze into your elbow to keep your hands as clean as possible and wash your hands carefully after you sneeze or cough, regardless.
Moreover, take social distances as serious. Social distancing means staying home and working remotely when possible. If you must go out for necessities, keep a distance of 6 feet from other people. You can transmit the virus by speaking to someone in close contact to you.
Currently, the global death toll from the coronavirus has soared to 19,000, with the number of infections standing at more than 400,000. The deadly virus surfaced three months ago in China’s Wuhan city and spread to 190 countries around the world.
According to international media reports, at least 422,000 people have been infected and around 19,000 others killed by the pandemic. About 110,000 patients have recovered and returned to normal life. At least 3,200 people have died in China, nearly 7,000 in Italy and 800 in the US. In Afghanistan, 80 people have been infected with the virus and only two persons have lost their lives.
