AIHRC’s input sought while releasing Taliban prisoners: NSA

By: The Kabul Times
KABUL: National Security Advisor Dr. Hamdullah Mohib had a video teleconference with ambassadors of troop-contributing countries about developments in the release of prisoners, a statement from the Office of National Security Council (ONSC) said yesterday.  Afghanistan is prepared to move forward on prisoners and peace, the NSA said, as quoted in the statement, adding that technical teams had made progress on difficult issues. NDS Director-General Saraj explained that some Taliban prisoners, involved in large-scale attacks against civilian targets and linked to international terrorist groups, pose a threat to the national security of Afghanistan and its allies if released, according to the statement.  Office of the National Security Council has sought Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission’s input on the list of prisoners and the release mechanism, approving for implementation some of AIHRC’s recommendations on the rights of the victims of Taliban attacks.  National Security Advisor said that the rights of victims – Afghan or otherwise – are important to Afghanistan. He invited the ambassadors to engage the ONSC if they have questions on this matter, the statement added.
