KABUL: Three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and an economic cooperation agreement have been signed in presence of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, acting ministers of mines and petroleum and telecommunication and information technology, chairmen of DABS and Bayat Group and Turkmen ambassador to Kabul. In a ceremony held yesterday on this occasion at Presidential Palace and attended by members of cabinet and Turkmen minister for foreign affairs, first acting chairman of Da Afghanistan Bank by briefing related to the MoUs and agreement praised the country’s President for paving the way for signing such big projects with agreement of the Turkmen President Qurbanquli Berdi Mohammadov. Afterwards, via video conference the Turkmen foreign affairs minister by conveying good wishes of the people of Turkmenistan and President to Pres- ident Ghani and the people of Afghanistan added Turkmenistan and Afghanistan as two good neighbors and friends have proved that they were strengthening their relations in cultural and economic sectors besides having diplomatic relations. Pointing to Afghanistan peace process, the Turkmen foreign affairs minister said that his country would fully support from all initiatives and efforts taken towards maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan, hoping Afghanistan would soon reach lasting peace. Related to TAPI, the Turkmen foreign affairs minister asserted that Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and In- dia should jointly work and cooperate in connection with gas, energy and railway as they were all for further cooperation among the four countries. Afterwards, Three Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) and an economic cooperation agreement were signed in the ceremony in presence of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Speaking in the ceremony, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani while praising the Turkmen President said with overall attention of the Turkmen President in the past five years, new Lapis Lazuli Route and Silk Road were revived and by starting these big projects, they would revive and develop the Helmand civilization. “Today is a day that we are reviving our good history and compensate bad incidents of the past history,” President Ghani said, adding that in the first step, Herat would be changed to a key center of gas and energy. The country’s President further said that by construction of Khawaf – Herat railway, Torghundi – Herat, both Afghani- stan and Turkmenistan would be connected to each other, saying that by completion of Uzbekistan railway, the Timorid era of Herat civilization would be revived. Pointing to TAPI project, President Ghani said that the work on TAPI would be started next year in Afghanistan, adding that Turkmenistan is a good neighbor not only for Afghanistan but for other countries in the region.
