KABUL: In a phone conversation, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, discussed extending bilateral and strategic relation between the two nations, especially the trade and transit and regional cooperation, a statement said.
President Ghani said that Afghanistan and Tajikistan play a significant role in regional economy and transit that can cause development of both nations, the statement from the presidential press office quoted.
Emomali Rahmon said that he will support position of Afghan government in peace process and added: “Tajikistan supports peace process with ownership and leadership of Afghan Government, and will support the Afghan Government position at the regional and international conference on Afghan peace process.”
President of Tajikistan invited President Ghani to visit Tajikistan. While appreciating and accepting this invitation, President Ghani also invited Emomali Rahmon to visit Afghanistan, the statement added.
In the near future, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan will visit Tajikistan with a delegation team to set the agenda of the meeting between both Presidents. Both Presidents agreed that delegation of Afghanistan and representatives of Tajikistan will discuss strengthening political, economic and security cooperation between both nations, especially counter terrorism and narcotics, according to the statement.
