KABUL: Afghanistan special counterdrugs police unit said on Monday that it had arrested 70 drug traffickers and confiscated heavy amount of drugs following scores of operations across the country in 2020. According to a statement from the ministry, the special counterdrug police unit, which is part of the Afghan national police, has launched 87 effective operations across the country since the beginning of 2020. “More than 150 tons of hashish, over 3,300 kg poppy, 444 kg heroin and 77 kg amphetamine have been seized and 70 drug traffickers have been arrested, an achievement indicating the rising power of the special police unit in fighting drug in Afghanistan,” the statement said. The country’s defense and security forces, (DSF) particularly the special counternarcotic police unit enjoy enough capacity and capability to conduct independent confiscated operations against drugs which is the biggest funding source of the terrorist groups, said the statement.
