53 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths reported in Afghanistan

KABUL: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Saturday 53 more individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, the ministry said 282 individuals underwent tests and 53 of them were diagnosed with the virus, that the total infection reached to 40,141.

At least 14 new cases were recorded in Paktia, 12 in Balkh, eight in Paktika, six in Kabul, six in Faryab, five in Laghman, one each in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces.

About 45 people recovered from the pandemic during the period, pushing up the number of recoveries to 33,561, the statement added.

Three people lost their lives due to the pandemic in the past 24 hours, taking the number of deaths to 1,488.
