KABUL: The cabinet meeting chaired by the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was held at the Presidential palace yesterday afternoon with the participation of cabinet members and governors via video conference, the palace said Friday.
At the outset, President Ghani expressed his deep condolences and sympathy to the families of the pilots of the country’s Air Force and a number of security and defense forces whose aircraft were targeted by a terrorist attack in Behsud district of Maidan Wardak province, and called on the relevant institutions to duly meet the problems of their families. The President also instructed all government departments to take the necessary measures to expedite the process of serving the people of the district.
The president once again congratulated the cabinet members and all the people of Afghanistan on the inauguration of the Kamal Khan Dam, a long-standing dream of the people and one of the most important economic projects for the management of water in the country.
Also, the president, while expressing gratitude for the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the opening of the Kamal Khan Dam, stressed that Afghanistan is committed to the Helmand Agreement and that the economies of Afghanistan and Iran complement each other and Afghanistan’s cooperation with neighboring countries will be sustainable.
The General Directorate of the Presidential Affairs was then tasked with issuing a decree banning hunting in and around Kamal Khan Dam and preventing the use of explosives and other unsuitable methods for fishing.
Necessary instructions were also issued to the relevant departments for the purpose of creating green parks by planting saplings to decorate the area around the dam for attracting tourism. The General Directorate of the Presidential Administration Affairs was also tasked in cooperation with the National Water Administration and other relevant departments to convene a special meeting of the Supreme Economic Council to discuss the effective management of water areas.
