Following the start of intra-Afghan talks between Afghanistan government and Taliban in Qatar, a number of regional countries have declared their full support from Afghan peace process the talks between the two sides. Afghanistan government by praising regional countries say peace in Afghanistan means peace and stability in the region and world.
Deputy spokesperson to Presidential Office Dawa Khan Menapal by pointing to recent visit of US special peace envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad said regional countries were being asked to honestly cooperate in Afghanistan peace process.
Nevertheless, Afghan lawmakers and political experts believe that a number of regional countries are not optimistic and cooperative in Afghanistan peace process and want US to keep engaged in Afghanistan war so that regional competitions continue in the country. Political experts also consider that efforts of the regional and world countries in Afghan peace process are made for their competitions and concessions.
“The people of Afghanistan are thirsty of peace and welcome any voice that could bring peace to the country and now it is time that US should reach an agreement with its international and regional allies regarding peace in Afghanistan,” said Ahmad Imran, an Afghan political expert.
He added that the ongoing war would not end until regional and world countries did not reach agreement on Afghanistan issue.
Hashimi, an Afghan university lecturer, says Afghan leaders have made effort towards maintaining peace in the country for the past 19 years, but unfortunately peace has not been maintained due to various problems and issues.
“One of the reasons that have resulted in failing peace efforts is lack of cooperation of neighboring countries particularly Pakistan in this regard as the country has been always committed to cooperating in maintaining peace in the country, but unfortunately no practical action has been taken by Pakistan government in this regard,” Hashimi stressed.
Now, it is very necessary to exert continued pressure on countries supporting the Taliban group to convince the group to say ‘yes’ to a permanent ceasefire in the country so that all issues will be discussed Intra-Afghan talks started early this week in Qatar.
According to Afghan political experts, Afghanistan is a country which is surrounded by various countries some of which are interfering in internal affairs of Afghanistan and working to sabotage ongoing peace process, but they should know that peace in Afghanistan can help maintain peace and stability in the whole region and world.
“Pakistan wants Afghanistan to be an unstable country; on the other hand, India wants Afghanistan not to change as safe haven for terrorist groups,” said Omar Sharif, an international relations expert.
This comes after intra-Afghan talks between Afghanistan government and Taliban started early this week in Qatar where Indian foreign affairs minister asked world countries to root out safe havens of terrorists beyond Afghanistan borders, stressing that Afghanistan soil should not be used against India. Now, it is time that all regional countries particularly Pakistan should honestly cooperate in Afghanistan peace process as the people of Afghanistan are tired of ongoing war and want lasting peace and stability in their country and fortunately Afghans are now more optimistic in connection with role and cooperation of neighboring countries.
