President Ghani stresses women’s key role in peace process

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani addressing a women’s gathering organized by the office of the First Lady and the National Security Council here yesterday said the upcoming presidential elections to be held on time, adding government was decisive in fighting corrupt and powerful individuals in the country.
According to a statement from the presidential press office, the President thanked women’s participation to the event, saying he has directed National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib to increase provincial women’s role peace related committees.
“I am proud of your opinions as it is legal, general and country-wide. Peace process shouldn’t be Kabul-based, but should involve the people across the country,” the president added, as quoted in the statement. Hinting to water management, the president said many dams were either constructed or reconstructed, adding planning of remaining water dams were still going on and none of the country’s region would leave out of electricity. “There would be no peace sans proper economic planning. Opportunities should be given to youth so that to be recruited in government organs,” the president noted, saying 22 thousand of youth were recruited by the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Services Commission through open competition.
Concluding his remarks, the president called national unity key to Afghans’unison and stressed on women’s key role.
