KABUL/COLOMBO: Deputy to the Publication Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Culture, S. Fazel Agha Sancharaki has co-hosted the second Round Table of the South Asia Food and Nutrition Security Initiatives (SAFANSI) held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, a statement said Sunday.
The one-day event (June 25-26 June) was organized by the World Bank and co-hosted by the Government of Sri Lanka, the statement from MoIC said.
The Afghan official delegation was also comprised of Dr. Sayed Shams-ul-Islam Shams the Coordinator of the Technical Secretariat, Shafiqullah Atayee, Deputy of Policy and Plan of the ACCI and Ghayoor Sadaat, the statement added.
The EU commission and the WFP office in Afghanistan were also represented by their national staff Dr. Zamir and Labibpoor.
The delegation returned home on June 27, as the event concluded, according to the statement.
SAFANSI is a trust fund established in 2010 by DIFID and WB which strives to provide technical and financial support to South Asia countries that they achieve food and nutrition security.
The SAFSNI round table- 2 was a high-level summary event that drew the latest evidence and experience from current nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific programs focusing on putting the lens on the consumer in nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food systems in South Asia.
It has explored the implications for acting at scale with such interventions, including, engaging with consumers and the importance of consumer education through improved communication, advocacy, monitoring and evaluation dimensions. Key results of this event was that the public and private sector, business, donor and civil society as well as decision makers raised the profile of nutrition by addressing the role of consumers within food systems in their home countries, and find effective ways to work together by addressing consumer demand in the value chain. More than 150 participants attended this event who represented mixed and divers groups such as policy makers, program managers, and agriculture and nutrition experts, working with governments, research organizations, civil society, donor organizations, and private sector.
