KABUL: The meeting of the selection committee for the members of the Commission of Access to Information was held, with Acting Minister of Information and Culture, Hasina Safi, on the chair, on Monday, Bakhtar News Agency reported.
The meeting selected 15 eligible persons out of 117 applicants to be introduced to the Presidential Office from among whom, the present would select only five people as the members of the Commission for Access to Information, said the agency.
According to the law on access to information, the committee would be led by the Acting Minister of Information and Culture and consisted of members from the Supreme Court, Wolesi Jirga, Journalists Federation, Independent Human Rights Commission, Society of the Advocates and Institutions of Afghanistan Civil Society, the agency added. After the indorsement of the Presidential Office, and officially start of the commission’s new members, free circulation of information is expected to be eased further than ever and the information culture is expected to be more popularized in the country, the agency continued. Afghanistan right of access to information has recently been recognized as one of the best laws of access to information, by the Law and Democracy Center, in Canada, among the 150 countries of the world.
