Radio plays key role in promoting access to information & rule of law
 February 13 is marked as World Radio Day. Radio is a key element for maintaining human rights and human dignity and considered as powerful tools for finding solution to issues and challenges facing today’s world.
Therefore, radio has significant role in exercising goals of 2030 enduring development program. Development of fundamental freedoms and promotion of access to information are very important for strengthening of good governance, rule of law and expansion of social coherence.  Radio as a proper media instrument that can be accessible at any time results in connection of various sections, strengthening of interaction, management of new challenges, responding to weather changes and dealing with discrimination.
Implementation of such goals requires mass support from radio. Producers of radio programs and listeners of radio should make fully use of power of radio and strengthen it. Besides other media broadcasting instruments, radio plays vital role in creating general trust and delivering information to the people. Moreover, radio helps find ways for solution of local problems and paves the way for improvement of human rights, gender equality, interaction and tranquility.
As media and informative resources’ operations are developing day by day and social media is in top priority for further delivering information to people, radio has changed to a key resource of information in Afghanistan where listeners of radio are increasing day by day.
Currently, most of the people of Afghanistan have access to radio the listeners of which are increasing in remote areas of the country where there are 200 radio stations operating countrywide.  A number of experts by considering radio as learning and easy media say radio has changed to a successful information resource among poor people in the world for sharing information and delivering recreational programs. It is a proper media instrument for broadcasting social and cultural broadcasts and can put positive impacts on community.
Afghanistan is a conservative country that has problem from point of economy and power, so radio can be a very good media instrument to deliver messages to the people of this country.  In remote villages and districts of Afghanistan, hearing radio has changed to part of the people’s life as they hear any incidents in the country through radio first. Listeners of radio are mostly interested in reports that are based on facts and review problems of Afghan society.
Radio is facing with challenges too as increasing of security and economic problems have caused that most of radios stop operation in remote areas of the country. The first radio station kicked off its operation as Radio Kabul nearly 90 years ago at the time of King Amanullah Khan, but its programs were stopped due to some causes. But, once again it began its broadcasting in 1320 H.S. and was heard only in Kabul city.
