Untold stories of the country’s first national park
The ancient province of Bamyan has countless historical wonders and recreational areas that have put it at the level of the world spectacular sites. The magical scenes and historical sites in the center and districts of Bamyan have caused thousands domestic and foreign tourists to travel to this province and visit its riches. These riches include Band-e-Amir, the destroyed idles of Budha, Hajar, folodi and Azhdaha (Dragon) vallies, the historical cave of Yekh and other caves, warm water springs, historical cities of Zohak, Gholghola, Chehel Borj, etc. friendly approach of Bamyan people with visitors and reliable security also remain good impact in increase of tourism in this area.
Locating 75 km to the Bamyan capital, Band-e-Amir consists of six big pools in Yakawalang district among vallies and Baba and Hindukhosh mountains, these pools are called as Band-e-Gholman, Band-e-Haibat, Band-e- Zulfeqar, Band-e- Pamir, Band-e- Qanbar, Band-e-Podina as Band-e- Zulfeqar is the biggest one with an area of 490 hectar. The depth of Band-e- Amir has been estimated 64 m and every year thousands local and foreign tourists visit them.
Its wonderful attractions, cold winter, security, high mountains, standard roads, caused the central administration in 1388 H.S to announce it as the first national park ever since numerous changes have taken place in that park for instance asphalting of Kabul-Bamyan, Yekawadang road, setting of security gates, cementing and macadamizing of sidewalks around the pools establishment of sign boars to guide visitors, rebuilding of Band-e- Amir Shrine, entertainment place for children prohibition of fishing, appointment of certain employees to collect garbages, large number of food shops have been opened around the band and jobs and employment opportunities have been available to large number of countrymen there small and big boats are operating inside the band. Male and female environments have been separated to an extent.
All fish frying shops who had hunted fishes in the Band, have been stopped and along the road to Band-e- Amir grounds have been paved for locals to supply their products, handicrafts and dairy products including yoghurt, cheese, cream, milk, dehydrated butter milk in reasonable prices to visitors. These are good source of income to people.
Sport facilities have also been provided for locals including wrestling, hours racing, football etc. families can accommodate during night there and spend nights there in peace of mind. Every car owner has to pay Afs 50 for parking services.
Beside the abovementioned available facilities, there are certain shortages and obstacles including insecurity, explosions and possible kidnaping along the Kabul-Bamyan road in Jalraze area, lack of electricity in that area, expensive airlines  tickets to travel to Bamyan by air, lack of standard hotels, expensive foods and lack of control, lack of forests, lack of observance of ethitical principles by some visitors etc.
