During spring season that Judas tree flower blossom on Gulghondi (Flower Hill) in Chahrikar the provincial capital of Parwan province, thousands countrymen, women with their families attend it and organize picnics and enjoy lovely climate and transparent atmosphere and perfume of Judas tree flowers.
As a national festival, beside orange flower in Jalalabad, Rose flower festival in Mazar-i-Sharif, Yellow flower festival in Herat, Pomegranate flower in Kandahar and Almond flower festival in Dykondi, the Judas tree flower in Parwan province was officially recognized by the MoIC in 1392 H.S and this year the third festival of Judas tree flower was celebrated.
Talking on Gulghondi and Judas tree flower festival, the head of Parwan provincial department of Information and Culture Abdul Wahed Hashimi in an interview with The Kabul Times reporter said, this festival is celebrated every year with the cooperation of local administrations and socio-cultural bodies in this province.
Hashimi added, in the past, Parwan department of information and culture had organized a short function at local level in the name of Judas tree flower picnic and on sunny days local people with their families specially on holydays held picnics among Judas trees and certain programs including egg fighting, card playing, chess, Karambul, music enthusiastically.
Hashimi went on to say, Judas tree festival contains very important and valuable pecutarities including preservation of ancient cultural traditions, social convergence, growth of artistic and literary activities. Under present circumstances in our country, the importance of this festival is evasion from the culture of war and violence and being beside each other in beautiful nature and exploitation of natural beauties.
Touching the goals behind celebration of this festival, Hashimi said, the goals behind this celebration are growth of literature, support and development of artistic, social activities, strengthening of peace and national unity, improvement of spirit of initiative among youth and their scientific, artistic capabilities.
Hashimi clarified, in this festival programs of poetry, music, books and media were organized which were welcomed by cultural professionals and art lovers. On the beautiful hills of Hofian holy place, famous and respectable religious dignitaries including Khawja Mir Sayeed Agha, Khawja Khedr-e- Hayat, Khalifa Mir Jan Agha, Sayed Sayed Jan Agha, Jaafar Agha, Khawja Sabzposh-e- Wali Saheb and others have been buried. Large number of people who are flowers of these people, go there, pray to them.
Gulghondi hill is overlooking Chahrikar city. Some people take ready food for their lunch. Children also enjoy this picnic.
Ghulam one of locals who had attended Judas tree festival said, on Friday I took my family to Gulghondi hill and we had a good time. It was very crowded and it was very difficult to find a parking to our car. All restaurants were full and crowded and the voice of local music was raising from every corner of the city. Mobile Samavars were setup and fishes and Jilabi was sold. On the other corner, Partridge players were gathered and Savories were fighting by enthusiasts.
