Gozargah Dairy Products Union encourages domestic investment growth
The Gozargah Dairy Products Union, which has been active in pasteurized dairy products for more than ten years in Kabul, has a capacity of 5000 to 7,000 liters of milk per day and if the conditions are not limited, the daily production capacity of this union could increase to 20,000 liters of milk, according to officials.
Ghulam Zakria Ahmadzai, Head of the Dairy Products Union, said in an interview with the Kabul Times reporter on the work and activities of the union that Kabul Dairy Association, consisting of 950 families of farmers from Logar, Wardak, and Dehsabz districts of Kabul, and about 22 cooperatives have its membership in Kabul that prepares the dairy needed by the people.
The Kabul Dairy Product Union collects 5,000 liters of milk every day from farmers’ families and transfer to this union for check and health examination. After milk processing, all types of dairy products would be provided, such as cheese, cream, butter and pasteurized milk, Ahmadzai stated.
The Gozargah dairy product union is located in southern Kabul, the money which received from the sale of dairy products, is distributed again to breeders of milk every week.
The Union will provide several types of services for breeders and livestock breeding families. “We will provide training programs for farmers at the level of their villages to transform their livestock from the traditional form to industrial one and for their animals, the durable foods that are made of the mineral material and the protein are distributed at regular intervals to keep the cow’s milk production high as well in addition to that, we trained mobile animal services programs to help them cure when their animals get sick, Ahmadzai asserted.
He says an unmodified native cow produces up to 5 liters of milk a day in an average of 24 hours. But the cows that have been modified by their artificial impregnation produce up to18 liters milk and in the animal nutrition section, seeds will be distributed to them to cultivate in their lands and feed their animals.
“One of the goals of the union, which was established with the help of the Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO was to protect the sanitation of all our domestic dairy products,” Ahmadzai added.
How hygienic is the dairy products that enter Afghanistan? Is the work and activities of such unions in Afghanistan still used by people that come from outside? In response to this question Ahmadzai said that dairy products that enter into Afghanistan is composed of more chemical materials have been used inside of the country which is harmful to the health of the people. Majority of us do not check its date and become sick after our people use it.
It should be noted that this union provides the people with up-date the dairy. In warm season, 70 percent of the produced dairy products include yogurt, whey, and sour milk, but in winter 70 percent of produced dairy products are cream and butter. And other 30 percent is sour milk, yogurt and whey.
The union covers all its members throughout the year, and it is said that this union is neither a government nor a personal related institution, but a union of farmers’ families and is in contact with them throughout the whole season. In spite of the fact that this union consists of farmers’ families, within this institution, 45 employees are busy in providing materials by using machines, processing, packaging, feeding animals, in the financial sector, marketing, and training for livestock workers that they earn salaries from the union incomes.
There are several dairy unions in Kabul and provinces, and how much the people are satisfied with your work? Answering the question he says that this union work is different from others, because it is the farmers union that offers fresh livestock products and fresh milk to the public on a daily basis.
Some of these private unions who produce powdered milk, and the way that we have been informed is that powdered pastry milk is processed in their factories which is harmful for people health and without a professional system, they continue to work.
Ahmadzai about his experience says that I have learned the experience of the dairy industry from the India, where I have been trained, and the Indian people, in this way, collect fresh milk from livestock owner families and offer them to the markets.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO, if the facilities are available to them, the daily milk supply capacity will increase to 30,000 liters.
