Starting voters’ registration process, key step towards holding transparent elections, NATO’s Zimmermann

 KABUL: Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday met NATO civilian representative to Afghanistan Cornelius Zimmermann at the Sapidar Palace, his office said in a statement.  
Welcoming starting voters’ registration for presidential and parliamentary elections, NATO civilian representative for Afghanistan called the move a step towards holding transparent and fair elections, according to the statement.  
Thanking NATO’s constant presence and assistances to Afghanistan, CE Abdullah called elections, the system’s legitimacy base and political stability in the country, the statement added. 
Dr. Abdullah added starting voters’ registration is an imperative step towards practicing one of the government’s commitments on transparency and holding fair elections, the statement continued.
During the meeting, NATO member countries’ assistances to Afghanistan, Afghanistan-Pakistan relations, peace process and the ways to achieve peace were also discussed.
NATO civilian representative said his entity would support Afghan government’s peace plans and called it a practical and realistic step to restore peace throughout the country, the statement added.
