Minister Hakimi signs commitment letter of Arusha Convention with the World Customs Organization for Good Governance and Customs Modernization

Minister Hakimi signs commitment letter of Arusha Convention with the World Customs Organization for Good Governance and Customs Modernization
 KABUL: Eklil Hakimi, Minister of Finance signed commitment letter of Arusha Convention in the presence of Mr. Kunio Mikuriya-Seretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and Mr. Kazunari IGARASHI- Head of WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Office for Capacity Building, his office said in a statement.
The declaration will help developing countries to reach the national goals such as business facilities, reforms and the fight against corruption, according to the statement.
 ”Accession of Afghanistan to the Arusha Convention will help us to strengthen the infrastructures and human resources capacity in Customs Department to develop the economy in addition to collecting national revenue. And this is the only good tool that will promote economic development, employment and trade with the regional countries” said Minister of Finance during the signing of commitment of this convention, the statement added.  “A skilled and committed Afghan as technical attaché of customs will soon be introduced to the world Customs Organizations (WCO) for further consolation with this organization” he added.
By signing the commitment to this Convention in the ten sections (Leadership and Commitment, Legal Framework, Transparency, Automation, Reforms and Modernization, Research, Conduct, Human Resources Management, Administrative Culture and Effective Relationships with the Private Sector), Afghanistan will fulfill its commitments.
“The World Customs Organization is as house of the World Customs Departments and we are interested in sharing our experiences with Afghanistan in the modernizing customs in Afghanistan, capacity building and better management of Customs” said Mr. Kunio Mikuriya-Seretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), the statement continued.
Revised Arusha Declaration is one of the WCO’s key legal instruments regarding the good governance, integrity in accomplishment of tasks and combating corruption which has been signed in Arusha, Tanzania, on the 7th day of July 1993 revised in June 2003, the statement concluded.
