Int’l community’s continued commitments to foil terrorists’ vicious plans
Afghanistan has remained an important partner for the United States and NATO in fight against terrorism, working with together to eliminate the remnants of al-Qaeda and its affiliates. In order to bring peace and improve the lives of the Afghan people, the US and allies continue to supporting of Afghanistan, in particular equipping the Afghan forces and easing them with necessary advises to combat terrorism.
NATO officials on Wednesday said the alliance was committed to continue its support to the Afghan government, but enabling the Afghan forces to stand on their feet would take time.
NATO assured Afghans that the alliance would remain committed to them for long time, and that the international community and the Afghan government would not give the rebels time to expand their activities.
Calling corruption a major issue for the Afghans and the allies, the NATO said war was not a solution to the Afghanistan issue and stressed more work for a political settlement. With Afghanistan and North Korea high on agenda.
Meanwhile the NATO chief said that 3,000 additional troops will be deployed at the start of 2018, which will bring Resolute Support’s total presence in Afghanistan to approximately 16,000.
Terrorism remains the prime concern. As a multifaceted phenomenon, terrorism is often conditioned by its environment. In the case of Afghanistan, the country and the growing numbers of its international partners are convinced that terrorists receive sustained support from outside Afghanistan.
Therefore, countries have to be sincere in their support for Afghanistan’s common struggle against terrorism. Afghans must be united in opposing those who continue to use terrorism as a means of statecraft, in full conformity with the principles of international law and norms.
The nature of terrorism calls upon the international community to pursue a united, determined and principled campaign against both the symptoms, and also the causes and sources of terrorism.
A peaceful future for the world lays not in the clash of civilizations, but in cooperation among Civilizations.
Throughout its history, Afghanistan has been at a junction of the land routes from China and India to the West and a meeting place of numerous and dynamic nations and cultures. As such, it has been a filter through which artistic styles, religious forms, and political ideas radiated in all directions. We are confident in the 21st century, Afghanistan will become once again a successful model of “Cooperation among Civilizations”, if peace and stability restored.
The international community has to keep one thing in mind that the developments that have been made in Afghanistan in last 16 years are very much valuable. They have been achieved by the dint of great sacrifices and a lot of resources. They should not be undone in any way and support to Afghanistan must not be ended before it is due.
It will be in the favor of Afghanistan, the region and the whole international world and would be of great assistance in putting an end to terrorism.
