Meeting reviews ATRA’s roadmap for next five years

KABUL: A meeting discussed Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority’s (ATRA) roadmap for the next five years with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on the chair here yesterday, a presidential statement said.
At the outset, ATRA’s director briefed the session on the roadmap, including the organization’s goals, achievements, successes in telecom sector, weakness and strength points, challenges and opportunities, frameworks for better competitions in telecom markets, extension of the working forces, modernization of telecom development fund, development of services and supporting of public services (electronic governance), the statement added.
The president said the roadmaps should be in line with current technological standards, emphasizing on necessary capacities for implementation of the roadmap.
“Technically all the systems are required to be updated and ATRA should carryout fundamental works in technology affairs,” President Ghani said, saying weaknesses and limitations before ATRA should be specified. The president also instructed ministries of finance, telecommunication and information technologies and central statistics department to closely work with ATRA on implementation of the roadmap, the statement concluded.
