11th death anniversary of Mohammad Zahir Shah, ‘Father of the Nation’ commemorated

KABUL: 11th death anniversary of Mohammad Zahir Shah, Father of the Nation, was commemorated in a ceremony at his mausoleum in Maranjan Hill.
At the ceremony attended the other day by NSA Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Minister of Defense Gen. Bahram Shah, Senate Chairman Fazil Hadi Muslimyar, Former President Hamid Karzai, a number of advisors to president, government officials and a large number of people and relatives of Father of the Nation participants by laying of wreaths on mausoleum of Father of Nation and prayed for his soul.
Mohammad Zahir Shah took the power in 1933 after the death of his father and ruled the country until 1973. After forty years of his kingdom in Afghanistan, he was overthrown and spent his remaining life in Italy. After Taliban regime was toppled in 2001, he returned home and was granted the title as Father of the Nation during the government of Hamid Karzai.
Due to illness, Father of the Nation Mohammad Zahir Shah died at the age of 92 in 2007and was buried in Kabul’s Maranjan Hill.
